Splinternet Takes Part In Anti-Terrorism Effort

Norwalk CT-- A city company is playing a role in a large-scale terrorism training event being held this week in San Diego Defentect, the business unit of Norwalk based Splinternet, announced that it's gamma radiation detection network will be part of the technology at the Golden Phoenix real world disaster response laboratory environment wheich is being led by the U.S. Department of HomelandSecurity, Customs and Border Protection. The event started Monday and runs through Thusrday. Splinternet personnel have been on the scene for a few weeks preparing
Defentect is also the name of the detection network. It is networked using IP and managed over the Web. When high-energy gamma raysfrom dirty bomb components interact with GammatectPlus sensors, Defentect's propritary algorithms analyze the data and alert authorities to radiation that may pose a threat.
"We're honored to be asked to participate in this prestigious event," James Ackerly, CEO of Splinternet, said.
Operation Golden Phoenix will focus on simulated bio-weapon and dirty bomb attacks in the Southern California region. According to company officials, Defentect will participate in two scenarios with several partners whose technologies include video surveillance, license plate and facial recognition systems.
At Brown Field Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Marina Aircraft Group-46 will staff a security checkpoint where Defentect's Gammatect Plus sensors monitor for threat-level radiation 1/4 mile from a designated area. Defentect will detect radiological check sources' proximity to the security entrance and alert authorities to their presence via cell phones, PDAs and pagers.
